A CLOTH DOES NOT MAKE A MAN.

The Real Cloth.

A young man spent much of his life believing that what he wore defined who he was. He admired expensive clothes, fine shoes, and anything that made people notice him. When people complimented his appearance, he felt important. When they didn’t, he felt small.

One day, he met an old traveler sitting beneath a tree. The traveler wore simple, worn clothing, yet people greeted him with respect and kindness.

Curious, the young man asked, “How do people honor you when your clothes are so plain?”

The old traveler smiled and replied, “Because clothes only cover the body. They do not reveal the heart.”

The young man sat quietly as the traveler continued.

“What makes you human is not the cloth on your body, but the spirit within you. It is how you treat your neighbor, how you care for your brothers and sisters, and how you love yourself as God loves you.”

The traveler gently touched his sleeve.

“This cloth can be removed at the end of the day. It can wear out, tear, or be replaced. But your character, your compassion, your faith, and your love remain. Those are the true garments of a person.”

The young man reflected on these words. From that day forward, he cared less about what people saw on the outside and more about who he was on the inside.

And he learned that the finest clothing a person can wear is a heart filled with love, kindness, and the light of God.
